Adams is born in Italy while her father served with the U.S. military and she was raised within Castle Rock Colorado as one of seven children. The mid-1990s saw her begin professional dancing and acting in Colorado's Dinner Theatre and the Country Dinner Playhouse in Colorado. Then, in Minnesota and at a local theatre she was cast as a character in the mock documentary about beauty contests called Drop Dead Gorgeous. Then, in Los Angeles, she pursued acting after her debut film in which she portrayed the dizzy, but friendly contestant. Leigh's film career began after signing a MGM contract in the late 1940s. The actress was discovered by actress Norma Shearer. She appeared in a range of films that became popular over the following decade, such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (from 1960) as well as Living It Up (1954) with Martin Lewis.
