Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta, beginning with her farmer great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in the theatre at a young stage. When he was a college students at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he was a part of many performances. After joining the airforce In 1953, he starred in an airforce production in Biloxi together with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, they got married and, in 1956, their son Eric Anthony was born. In 1957 the couple left the air force and Walter was enrolled at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter became a member of Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio when the family moved from Atlanta to Georgia's Decatur in the year 1960. Walter along with Betty Lou started production in 1964 for the local Saturday morning children's show on television called Bum Bum and His Buddies and their Buddies, which they both funded. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou founded the Actors and Writers Workshop. It lasted for 6 years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
